COMBES
IN CONSTRUCTION
This home is a complete redesign and rebuild of a residence that was considered a total loss from a structure fire on Donner lake in Truckee California.
The design was based on the original footprint of the home and driven by the steep topography and intense surface and sub surface snow melt that is subject on the site, there are 2 naturally forming creeks in the spring that run around the top and sides of the home + underground water flow that sheds directly on top of the shallow bedrock layer.
The parcel/project was limited in size and by planning constraints.
Access to the home and driveway was strictly regulated and required updating from what was substandard to current codes.
The resulting design is a 4 bed, 3.5 bath residence set in a steep hillside with 270 degree views of Donner lake.
Our clients were specific about wanting a simple, European/Swiss style home, with a minimal material
palate that was integral to the natural landscape and a simple roof shape for snow protection and shedding in the winter.
The design has large expanses of high performance glass facing south to Donner lake and passive solar overhangs with an elegant tapered roof edge to lighten the visual weight of the structure required due to heavy snow loading.
The project is in construction and anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2025.
